What is a 3PL provider?
A third-party logistics provider (3PL) manages some or all of a company’s supply chain operations, including warehousing, transportation, and distribution, on their behalf. Working with a 3PL like Freight Management Group allows businesses to reduce overhead, scale operations quickly, and focus on their core business while leaving the logistics to experienced professionals.
How do I choose a 3PL provider?
Look for a provider with experience in your industry, a proven track record, flexible services, and transparent communication. The right 3PL should act as a true partner in analyzing your current operation, identifying inefficiencies, and offering solutions that improve both speed and cost. At FMG, every new client relationship starts with a thorough operational assessment before we recommend anything.

WAREHOUSE MANAGEMENT FAQs

What warehouse management services does FMG offer?
We provide complete warehouse support including container and trailer unloading, inbound freight coordination, yard spotting, and short- and long-term warehousing. From staffing to software, we manage the full scope of warehouse operations.
What is a lumper service?
A lumper service provides labor specifically for unloading freight from trailers or containers, physically moving product from the truck to the dock or warehouse floor. FMG has offered professional unloading and lumping services since 1994, making it one of our longest-standing and most refined capabilities.
What is yard spotting?
Yard spotting is the repositioning of trailers and containers within a facility’s yard; moving them to the correct dock door, staging area, or holding spot. For high-volume operations, professional yard spotting reduces dock congestion, cuts driver detention time, and keeps freight moving efficiently.
What is cross docking?
Cross docking is a logistics process where inbound freight is unloaded, sorted, and transferred directly to outbound trucks with little or no storage time in between. It reduces warehousing costs and speeds up delivery and is ideal for time-sensitive or high-turnover shipments. FMG supports cross docking as part of our broader warehouse management services.
Do you offer warehouse services near Syracuse, NY?
Yes. FMG is headquartered in Camillus, NY and provides warehousing, unloading, and yard spotting services throughout the greater Syracuse area. We’re one of the region’s most established warehouse management providers, with roots in the market going back to 1994.
Do you offer real-time visibility into warehouse operations?
Yes. FMG’s proprietary software gives clients live visibility during the unloading process, so you always know the status of your freight.
TRUCKING & TRANSPORTATION FAQs

What transportation services does FMG provide?
We offer asset-based truckload, truckload brokerage, and dispatch services. Whether you need dedicated capacity or flexible access to a vetted carrier network, we have options to fit your freight volume and schedule.
What is truckload brokerage and how does it work?
Truckload brokerage connects shippers with vetted carriers to move full truckload freight. Rather than owning trucks, a broker like FMG maintains a network of qualified carriers and matches your load to available capacity, often faster and at lower cost than maintaining your own fleet. FMG is a TIA-member broker, meaning we meet rigorous industry standards for carrier vetting and compliance.
What is the difference between LTL and FTL shipping?
LTL (less-than-truckload) is used when your shipment doesn’t fill an entire trailer: you share space with other shippers and pay only for what you use. FTL (full truckload) means your freight occupies the entire trailer, offering faster transit times and less handling. FMG arranges both through our brokerage network.
Do you offer expedited shipping?
Yes. We offer expedited freight options for time-sensitive shipments that can’t wait for standard transit times. Contact us to discuss your timeline and we’ll find the right solution.
INTERMODAL & DRAYAGE FAQs
Blank to keep accordion closed.
What is intermodal shipping?
Intermodal shipping moves freight using two or more modes of transport, typically a combination of rail and truck, within a single container. It’s well-suited for long-haul shipments over 500 miles and generally offers lower costs than over-the-road truckload, making it a smart option for high-volume, non-time-critical freight.
What is drayage?
Drayage is the short-distance movement of a freight container: typically between a port, rail terminal, or intermodal facility and a nearby warehouse or distribution center. If you import goods or use rail freight, drayage is an essential link in your supply chain. FMG coordinates drayage as part of a fully integrated logistics solution.
How does FMG qualify carriers in its network?
We follow TIA-standard carrier qualification practices including FMCSA authority verification, insurance checks, and safety rating reviews. We hold every carrier in our network to the same performance standards we apply to our own operations.

Is FMG involved in the local community?
Yes. As a family-owned business, giving back is part of our culture. We’ve supported youth sports programs, the Geddes Little League, Cancer Connects, the Dianne L. O’Dell Scholarship Endowment, Luke’s Army Pediatric Cancer Research Fund, and local events including the Camillus Memorial Day Parade.
